29th Annual Ride the Rockies in Breckenridge

About 2,000 cyclists from all over the world will be entering Breckenridge on Day 7 of the Denver Post Ride the Rockies annual bicycle tour. Each day, treks can be anywhere from 40-100 miles long. This non-competitive, yet challenging event provides host communities with grants for deserving non-profits and proceeds from the event benefit other non-profits all over Colorado. The event began on Sunday, June, 8th in Boulder. Riders will travel nearly 500 miles and cross over six mountain passes, and will end in Golden, Colorado on Friday, June 13th.

Breckenridge’s Mayor John Warner is participating in this year’s event for the seventh or eighth time. The first day proved challenging for all the riders as they passed through adverse weather conditions, and decent of more than 11,000 feet down Berthoud Pass.

Breckenridge has an entire day of live music planned to welcome in the riders. There will be a large party at the Riverwalk Center on Thursday, June 12, starting around noon with food and drinks from Foodhedz and Breckenridge Distillery, entertainment, and music from DJ DC, Noah and the Arks and Chris Daniels and the Kings.

Riders will head out on Friday morning up Swan Mountain Road to embark on their final leg to Golden.
