Breckenridge is celebrating its traditional closing weekend in style! Although the mountain has announced that they will be open for the next 2 weekends, this weekend is the one to visit for the final ho down of the season. This weekend Breckenridge has saved the best music for last. With both bands performing on Peak 8 from 2 to 5 p.m. (you can’t miss it) tomorrow is Reggie sensation Toots and the Maytals and Sunday closes out Breckenridge’s Spring Fever with Rusted Root. So if you haven’t made plans to come up it’s not too late. Snow is in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday so there is still a chance to get a little last minute powder in as well. Here is a little background on the bands this weekend.
Toots and the Maytals
Toots & The Maytals are one of the most well-known ska and reggae acts of all time. Legends in their genre their music is a unique combination of gospel, ska, soul, reggae and rock. Formed in the early 60’s Toots and the Maytals were key figures in reggae music. Comprised of leader Frederick “Toots” Hibbert, Nathaniel “Jerry” Matthias, and Raleigh Gordon, all natives of Kingston, the Maytals are said to have been the first group to use the word “reggae” in a song title with their Leslie Kong-produced “Do the Reggay.”
Frequently featured in Hollywood film soundtracks, Rusted Root are known for their unique fusion of acoustic, rock, world and other styles of music, with a strong percussion section that draws from African, Latin American, Native American, and Indian influences, Rusted Root explores a variety of musical styles and performs live on Sunday!
