Oh Yes! It’s On!! Summit County’s Ski and Snowboard Season Has Arrived

Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort in the fallCan we get a Whoop Whoop for the arrival of Summit County’s 2011/2012 ski and snowboard season!! Starting officially 100 days from the end of the ski season, Arapahoe Basin will start turning the lifts tomorrow at 9 a.m. As always local radio station KYSL will be on hand to get the party started with music, prizes, swag and more.

Usually Arapahoe Basin and Loveland Ski Areas vie for the honor of being the first ski area to open in Colorado but this year they were both usurped by Wolf Creek, a small (but sick) ski area in southern Colorado that got pounded last week with 3 feet (yes, 3 feet) of snow last week. Wolf Creek did close for this week and will reopen on weekends for now so that means Arapahoe Basin will actually be the first ski area to open for continuous operation in Colorado. We know that’s a little nit-picky but we take our skiing and snowboarding very seriously here J

For those of you, who have to have your fix and are planning to come up tomorrow, come early. It gets crazy on opening day and lines can get long. Never fear though the Basin will have the Bar and all of its other services open. According to the resort they will be offering lift ticket discounts with opening day adult lift tickets will be $59; youth tickets age 15-18 will be $49; and child tickets age 6-14 will be $30.

Black Mountain Express will open to the public at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. Skiers and riders can look forward to an 18-inch base on the intermediate High Noon run along with several features in the High Divide Terrain Park. There will be no beginner skiing at this time.

If you are not one those brave enough to fight for this season’s first turns just remember that Breckenridge ski lifts will start turning November 11th and is expecting to have quite a few runs open for their first day of skiing.
